Basil L. Vasilarakos, 53, of LaPorte, IN, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, in LaPorte.

He was born Jan. 31, 1966, in Gary, IN, the son of Loucas Vasilarakos and Thespina (Pagonis) Vasilarakos.

Basil graduated with a degree in culinary arts and utilized his cooking skills working for the family restaurant, Louie’s Cafe in LaPorte. He also enjoyed listening to and playing music.

He was married to Kristen (Asala) Vasilarakos, who survives.

He is also survived by his two sons, Lucas Vasilarakos of Phoenix, AZ, and Sam Vasilarakos of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Tom Vasilarakos of LaPorte; sister, Miriam (Bill) Guinee of Valparaiso, IN; and grandchild, Tytan Vasilarakos of Phoenix, AZ.

Basil was preceded in death by his father, Loucas Vasilarakos.

Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, is handling arrangements. A private family service will be held. Interment will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
